Poltrona Frau's Chester Sofa has a fascinating history that begins before the Great War. During his travels in London, Renzo Frau had the opportunity to discover the sofas and armchairs known as Chesterfields, which were present in the city's most exclusive clubs. He was impressed by their distinctive features and realised their potential. At first, he decided to import these models to Italy, but later decided to produce them himself, making significant modifications to adapt them to Italian taste. Thus, in 1912, Frau's Chester sofa was born, a handmade work of art that still fascinates design enthusiasts today.
The design of the Poltrona Frau Chester Sofa and Chester armchair is inspired by the classic model from Edwardian England, which Renzo Frau took up in his first catalogue in 1912. This model was inspired by the sofas and armchairs that adorned English clubs and country houses of the time. Since then, the Chester sofa has become an icon of the Poltrona Frau brand, admired for its capitonné workmanship executed entirely by hand and for the characteristic pleating of the armrests, which lend a touch of elegance and refinement to the sofa.

The Chester Couch has a variety of features
Removable Upholstery: The Poltrona Frau Chester Sofa is produced exclusively in non-removable leather, as the capitonné upholstery finished with tacks is done entirely by hand.
Technical Features: The Chester Couch is constructed according to the principles of traditional high-quality upholstery. The seasoned beech frame supports a spring system made of biconical steel springs, manually tied to jute straps.
Comfort: The comfort of the Chester Sofa is ensured by the seat cushions, which are made of soft goose down and envelop the body in a cosy embrace. The seat upholstery is made of rubberised horsehair, while the backrest and armrests are made of hand-moulded vegetable hair. This craftsmanship gives the sofa an extraordinary quality and strength.
