Design School: Contemporary Style

Contemporary style represents a return to the essence of things and their function, and the search for what is of high quality and technologically advanced.

Less is more

The smooth contours replace generous ornaments, fabrics with patterns replace colorful prints, accessories are reduced to essentials.

Modern and contemporary

Contemporary and modern styles are often used interchangeably, but they are not really the same thing.
The modern style refers to a movement that arose in the early Twentieth Century and follows strict guidelines and very clean; contemporary style, by definition, is more fluid and is characterized by a few lines of rupture: sharp edges and light-hued make obvious reference to the profiles of architectural and interior design of the regions of Northern Europe.

Space and light

Bright and airy spaces give energy. Light is natural, coming through windows through curtains tight and light, the rooms are organized to avoid mess, every piece of furniture has a place and a very precise function. Technology is at the service of the house and those who live in it.
Horizontal and vertical lines, which are essential but functional, are a contemporary style. This means not only the presence of well-squared corners. The lines will have simple geometric shapes: circles, spheres, cylinders, waves.

The colors and materials

The main colors are cream, white, brown, beige, black, gray, violet, monochrome, tone-on-tone or shaded. The contemporary decor avoids the carpet in favor of the floors. The surfaces are polished and lacquered: glass, plastic, tiles, porcelain tiles, and steel kitchens helping the diffusion of light. The opaque elements are inserted to control the game polished surfaces. The walls of the rooms do not have ornaments that encumber the environment, there are posters of family, simple but large paintings and sculptures, photographs in black and white, wallpaper with metallic lures.
