Industrial style is a furniture style that has come back into vogue in recent decades. It originated in the late 1980s, when there was a fashion for reclaiming disused spaces formerly occupied by industries, factories or offices.
These spaces were reused and made suitable for living.
Thanks in part to artistic movements such as Andy Warhol's Pop Art, the industrial style began to take hold in major cities and then spread around the world. Lofts and open spaces in old industrial buildings are transformed into fully equipped apartments.
The materials are very reminiscent of the minimalist style of industrial furniture and are very simple, often left in their raw state.
In general, exposed masonry is left to give even more of an idea of a raw environment, along with plumbing pipes and columns. Structural elements are left exposed, as if to testify to the past of the place, which is now changing function and use.
The rooms are always well lit thanks to large windows, both fixed and opening, and skylights in the roof. Tubing can be both a decorative element and a way to protect and divide the space: in the presence of a loft, for example, it can act as a protective railing. Originality and uniqueness are the hallmarks of the industrial style. As a result, no room or place will ever be identical to another.
Places open to the public, where music is played and cultural and artistic events are organized, are the environments where the industrial style is most present. In fact, these spaces are created in the very buildings of industrial origin, now abandoned.
The walls will not be plastered, to avoid modernizing the apartment too much.
It is then possible to complement the decoration of this type of room with vintage elements that recall the past and give an extra touch of originality. Simple, linear lamps, chairs or tables will complete the design of our home in perfect industrial style.
Steel, glass, wood and stone are the materials that characterize the industrial style. New materials are juxtaposed with existing ones in contrast, but also in harmony. This makes them more recognizable and legible.
Industrial style consists of furniture elements that can be assembled completely dry, that is, without the use of cement and mortar. This allows you to disassemble and reassemble it several times according to your personal taste. Very often there is a strong need for change and renewal of the environments experienced on a daily basis.
Whether it is a bed, a desk, a chair, a shelf or a table, everything should refer to industry: gears, screws, bolts, pipes, rough wooden planks, pallets, letters of a sign, and so on. The industrial style also makes it possible to combine elements that seem to have nothing in common except their own origin.
