The term was coined in 1700 by Winckelmann, who was the first to transfer this word from philosophy to art, referring in particular to the aesthetic doctrine of the Carraccis. It is a doctrine that found its ideal model in the drawings of Raphael and the chiaroscuro of Correggio.

In the 18th century, the term was often used in a negative sense, since the eclectic style was far removed from the spontaneity that characterized Romantic art.

Eclectic Interior Design

Eclectic style is all about mixing different elements. It combines various styles, colors, and textures to create a unique look. This design approach is flexible and personal, allowing for creativity and individuality. Eclectic spaces often feature a blend of old and new, combining vintage pieces with modern ones.

The key is to create harmony and balance, despite the mix of diverse items. Patterns and bold colors are common, giving the space a vibrant and lively feel.

The production and industry

The industrial development of the nineteenth century allowed many companies to produce objects and artifacts designed to enhance the history of their country of origin. In France, for example, furniture is characterized by the seventeenth century and the opulence of the court of Versailles. In Italy, however, eclecticism revives the style of Humanism and the Renaissance with eccentric Baroque.

Initially, productions were almost true to the original models, with the passing of time, artists, jewelers, and cabinet makers have given their creations a personal and innovative touch.

However, although this period produced works that are true bastions of eclectic art, mass production remained commonplace and lacked originality, in part because the work was too often entrusted to machines, which took important stages of product processing, such as woodcarving for furniture, away from humans.

Eclecticism in furnishing

Nowadays, it is quite possible to reintroduce the eclectic style in one's interior, but it is essential to always maintain a basic harmony in the furnishings and it is recommended to use light-colored walls, which are ideal for enhancing the diversity of the decor.

Furnishing a home in this style may seem complicated, but it is an extremely stimulating task. Antique stores or flea markets can be excellent allies for buying vintage pieces to pair with high-design modern or contemporary furniture.

All products are in pics by Edra.

Eclecticism is a term that derives from Greek and indicates the attitude of one who is inspired by different doctrines, choosing items that are more befitting, then making one synthesis.

"sfsi_plus_gutenberg_show_text_before_share":"
[8
124
post-12834","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-trends","tag-interior-design-styles
["GET
